Hanzo

Hanzo is my second favorite defensive character and can be incredibly strong if played correctly, so I would like to talk a little bit about him. Hanzo is a very strong sniper who should be played from the back lines of the team and should focus on sniping enemy healers and dps characters. The best place to be with Hanzo is somewhere high where you can keep all enemies in your line of sight and be able to get shots off at them. His primary fire is a shot from his bow that does more damage the longer it charges up meaning you should usually be aiming for the head and firing full power shots. Be careful though because there is some travel time on Hanzo's arrows so they will not hit as soon as you release them. Hanzo's passive allows him to climb walls so be sure to use this to your advantage to get you up on high buildings and  ledges to get better shots at the enemy. The shift ability is a sonic arrow that gives vision of an area for a short period of time. It is important to us

Widowmaker

Widowmaker is currently my favorite defensive player so I thought I might as well say something about playing her and give a few tips and tricks I have picked up along the way. Widowmaker is a sniper who excels at sitting in the back and picking off the enemies one by one, always keeping the numbers in her teams favor and making it harder for the enemy to be able to engage. Widowmaker's primary fire has two forms, when she is not scoped in it is a spray of machine gun fire that is inaccurate a long ranges and should not be used very often, unless someone gets too close. When scoped in Widowmaker's primary fire become a sniper shot that charges up from 0% to 100% dealing more damage at higher percentages. A fully charged shot to the head deals 300 damage which is enough to one shot kill any enemy who isn't a tank and two shot kill any tank. For this reason it is important to aim for the head and always fully charge your weapon unless you are shooting at someone who has alrea

Reinhardt

I would like to talk about play Reinhardt because he is my favorite of all of the tanks in the game and he can fit into nearly any team comp. Rein is good on offense because he is able to shield his teammates while they heal or do damage, but he is also good at charging in and getting as pick on the enemy team to turn the numbers in his favor. Rein is also good on defense because he can sit at any choke point with his shield up and stop enemies from shooting through or walking through into his teammates. Rein's primary fire is a swing of his hammer that does 75 damage per hit, killing most dps characters with only three swings. His secondary fire puts up a shield with 2000 health that the enemy cannot shoot through but that his own team can. You can not swing while the shield is up and it does cause you to walk slower. His shift ability is a charge that cannot be canceled once it is started but that will pin any enemy it hits to whichever wall he collides with first, which will kil

The Meta

The Meta is the selection of heroes and hero types that is the most popular at the moment, and that is currently winning the most games at high levels of play. The Meta changes a lot depending on which heroes are strong at the time, and which style of play is the most popular. For example, dive comp is one of the team compositions that are currently popular, dive comp is usually made up of heroes like Lucio, Winston, and Reinhardt who are good at running straight through the choke point and into the enemy team and getting right up in the faces of the enemy to start the fight rather that poking from the outside to get a pick before fighting. While the most popular meta may change a lot, I have found that going with two tanks, two healers, and two damage characters is always a strong choice against almost any team composition, and then you can change the characters within those categories based on what type of composition the enemy team is using. In my opinion within the two tank two hea

Ana

Now I would like to talk about playing Ana, because she is my favorite healer and I don't think she is always played correctly in the lower ranks. Ana Is a healer that excels at sitting in the back and healing up her team with her healing darts and neutralizing enemies that may happen to break through into her team. As Ana you should always be looking at your teammates health bars and being sure to fire at and heal up any teammates who are taking damage, paying especially close attention to your tanks. Ana's primary fire is a dart that damages enemies or heals teammates. This means that you cannot shoot through teammates and damage enemies like you can with other characters so be careful about that. While scoped in, Ana's shots are hit scan meaning that hit immediately, but when not scoped, her shots have a bit of travel time you'll have to account for. Ana's shift ability is a sleep dart that will put enemies to sleep for a period of time, taking them out of the

Genji

Now I would like to talk about playing Genji because he is my personal favorite hero for both solo play and with friends. Genji is a dps character who excels at diving into the back line of the enemy team and taking out their healers before the actual fight even breaks out, leaving the rest of the team without heals and vulnerable to being dove on and taken out. Genji’s primary fire is three shurikens thrown in a straight line at wherever the cursor is pointing. This fire is highly effective against targets that are long or medium range, or skinnier targets if you have the aim to land note than one shuriken per burst. The secondary fire is a fan-like cone shape throw of three shurikens that move at the same speed but spread out into the cone shape as they travel. This fire is very effective at close range because it can be fired faster than the primary fire, and at very close ranges, or against large characters it can be very easy to land multiple hits with one throw. I would recomme

Support Role

The support role in Overwatch is one that is not generally loved by the players, resulting in it being underplayed, and teams being left without supports. While people who play this role usually don't end up getting a lot of kills, making flashy plays, or pulling in the glory, the support role is actually a very important one because it is the role that provides most of the utility and healing for the team. As a healer you will usually want to be in the backline of your team where you are able to see all of your teammates and keep them all healed up. Most of the DPS characters on the enemy team will be doing everything possible to focus you down and kill you so they can leave your team without heals, making them vulnerable in fights. For this reason you will want to keep an eye out, fight the attackers when you can, and call for help from your team whenever needed because your team will usually realize how important you are in the fight and will do whatever is needed to keep you al

Tank Role

When playing the Tank Role in Overwatch your job is to protect your teammates and help them either get to the objective or defend it depending on which side you are on. When on offense your job is to protect your team's damage dealers and give them the opportunity to take out the enemy teams healers. The reason for this is because when DPS characters are out in the open they are usually the focus of the enemy team, and DPS characters usually do not have much health so they will get taken out very quickly. Tanks on the other hand have high amounts of health and armor and are usually able to shield themselves and teammates from damage with abilities. Once your DPS characters are shielded and given the opportunity to fire on the enemy team, they are usually able to pick off at least one person on the other team, giving your team the numbers advantage and sparking a fight that your team should be able to win. When on defense the tank character's job is to stop this very thing from

Defense Role

The Defense Role in Overwatch is one that is meant to guard certain areas. Times defense characters are important would be when you are on defense on payload, or control, or capture point game modes. The reason defense characters are good in these game modes is because they excel at taking out or locking down enemies within an area. These characters are better when the enemy has to come to you as opposed to DPS characters who are meant to be going after the enemies. When on defense, not every character on the team should be a defense character, it is usually best to only have two or three. The people who play these characters should usually stay close to the point that they are trying to defend because that's where they are most effective. The characters in Overwatch that fall into the defense category are Bastion, Hanzo, Junkrat, Mei, Torbjorn, and Widowmaker. Of these characters my personal favorites are Widowmaker, Hanzo, and Junkrat. Widowmaker and Hanzo because they are sniper

DPS Role

The DPS role is usually the most sought after role in the game because it is the one that is able to do the most damage, get the kills, and have all of the glory. As the DPS you are supposed to be focusing the enemy team's healers, then their DPS players, then their tanks, in that order. The reason for this is because if you were to focus on any of the other characters on their team, their healers would just continue to heal them up while their DPS characters took out the healers on your team, making all damage to you and to the tanks permanent, and causing the fight to be uneven, and giving the advantage to the other team. The characters who belong to the DPS role are Genji, Mcree, Pharah, Reaper, Soldier 76, Sombra, and Tracer. Out of this list, my personal favorites are Genji, Pharah, and Soldier 76, but all characters are viable and could be very good if you only practice with them. Getting the aim down on these characters and knowing who to be fighting and when to be fighting
